What makes SafeGauze® Green so different from other sponges?

Unlike the traditional cotton used in most non woven sponges, the organic cotton used in SafeGauze® Green was produced using no pesticides or insecticides. Lyocell®, the second fiber in SafeGauze® Green, is made from wood pulp using an environmentally friendly technology and FSC certified to ensure that each tree taken to manufacture the fiber is replaced with a new one. No other non woven sponge can claim this!

Traditionally grown cotton and organically grown cotton are very different. Not all cotton grown in the USA, or elsewhere, is organic.

Did you know?

  • Conventional cotton farming is one of the most environmentally destructive agricultural practices—harming the air, water, soil, and farmers’ health and safety.
  • Cotton is the most toxic crop in the world. Cotton uses more than 25% of all the insecticides in the world and 12% of all the pesticides.
  • Only an estimated 10% of this flood of chemicals actually accomplish their goal. The rest are absorbed by plants, soil, air, water, and our bodies—killing wildlife and harming ecosystems.
  • The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that approximately 20,000 people die each year in developing countries as a result of the chemicals sprayed on non-organic cotton.
  • Organic cotton is grown without chemical fertilizers, defoliants, pesticides, or herbicides, and from untreated, non genetically-modified seed.
  • Organic agriculture protects the health of people and the planet by reducing overall exposure to toxic chemicals from synthetic pesticides that can end up in the ground, air, water and food supply, and that are associated with health consequences from asthma to cancer.
  • Lyocell® is made from the natural cellulose found in wood pulp (trees).
  • Cellulose is a natural polymer that makes up the living cells of all vegetation. It is the most abundant and replenishing biopolymer on earth.
  • The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international network to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. Frequently, wood and paper products will be marketed as FSC certified which indicates that they have been produced and sourced in a manner that meets environmental and social standards set by the FSC.
